2 – Loxwood – 13km

This has to be one of my favourite runs as there is something for everyone, the route starts out at the Onslow Arms in Loxwood  and runs along side the the Wey & Arun Junction canal and into the forestry commission land at Sydney Wood.

Parking is easily found past the pub but can be busy when the canal is offering boat rides on the restored section, the route heads off along the old tow path past the pub and continues on to the lock keepers cottage. Once you have arrived here follow the footpath signs onto the forestry tracks to the right and past the cottage. Once you are running along the trails you will arrive at a crossroads so take a right and stay on the main trail until you see the Sydney Wood car park. Once here navigate across the car park past the picnic bench and follow the woodland path. There are a number of different options you can take but the GPX file will take you through the woods and back along the canal albeit in its pre-restored state. So follow this along until you come to a private road with a white house in front of you and turn left back onto the trail. This will lead you back to the lock keepers cottage where you can pick up the canal again and back to the pub for a well earned ale.

As the start of this run is an out and back its easy to choose your distance and if you are running at dawn or dusk do keep an eye out for the wildlife having spotted Heron and Kingfishers to name a couple. This route is at its best in late Spring and early Autumn when the weather is fair but can be run all year round if you and your pooch like a bit of mud.
